5 Planning Tips to Maximize Your Stay in Texas Hill Country Cabins

We know you’ve been there: after searching a jillion cabins and lodging options on Airbnb, VRBO, and other sites, you finally find your perfect little getaway for a weekend or week of R&R in beautiful Texas Hill Country cabins. Booking the place and creating the perfect weekend getaway experience, however, are two different things. Here are five tips to make sure you get the best stay ever.

1. Book Your Texas Hill Country Cabin in Advance

Cabin rentals aren’t like plane tickets; if the prices fluctuate, it’s based more on area events and the day of the week you’re staying. In other words, you typically don’t save money by waiting to book a place. Book early so you can have more time to plan ahead.

2. Read the Cabin Rental Amenities Closely

Is the cabin pet-friendly? Is there a kitchenette? Does the property have any extra amenities that are available to you? It’s important to note whether you can cook inside or out (or both) or if you need to bring shampoo. You don’t want to waste your vacation time running back to the store for things you thought were included in the cabin.

3. Plan Your Menu

Whether you’re grilling or kitchen cooking, planning your menu and shopping ahead of time is so much better than stopping at a grocery store on the way there and asking, “Okay, what should we eat this week?” If you plan ahead, you can also pack small bags of spices, bring any pantry staples you tend to keep on hand, or even pre-make a few things to throw in the cooler so you’re not cooking the entire time.

4. Research the Area

It’s especially important to do a little research of the greater area where you’re staying so you can have a rough idea of what you’re filling your days with. Are there state or national parks nearby? Trails? Are there eateries or breweries close by in case you don’t want to cook every night? Just sitting in a cabin for a whole week can make you a little stir crazy if all you’re doing is sitting in a cabin for a whole week. Plan some activities so you appreciate your cozy cabin as a comfortable place to come back to.

5. Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

When headed out of town, things can get forgotten. It happens. Didn’t bring marshmallow roasting sticks? Send the kids on a hunt for natural ones and teach them how to whittle. Once you’re there, you’re there. Stressing over a forgotten toothbrush is no way to have a great vacation. Let it go and make do with what you have.
